Historical American Flags
The collection of historical American flags we carry at the Flag Emporium includes flags from Revolutionary times all the way up through the present day. The American flag has a rich history, evolving from a series of colonial and regimental flags into the 50 stars and 13 stripes that make up Old Glory. Used today to show patriotism and pride, earlier versions of the American flag were flown to show independence and to spur revolutionary soldiers on to victory.
In our historical section, you will find more than the usual Betsy Ross, Confederate and Star Spangled Banner historical flags. We also sell lesser-known flags like "An Appeal to Heaven" and "Don't Tread on Me." Each of these historical flags has a special place in the saga of how the United States won independence from Britain.
The Rich Tradition of Historical American Flags
The historical flag known as "An Appeal to Heaven" is a white flag with a green pine tree in the middle. It was a symbol of the appeal for American independence, which soon became a fight. Ships commandeered by George Washington flew this flag during the days of the Revolution. Thus it gained the nickname "Washington Cruisers."
We carry "Washington Cruisers" in two sizes: a 4x6" mini flag and a 3x5' nylon version. We carry a variety of other historical flags as well including "Green Mountain Boys," "Fort Moultrie" and "Guilford Courthouse." As always, our custom-made flag services can be used to create any flag you don't see in our inventory.
